Robert Ballard
A 1993 Mechanical Engineering graduate from Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA, Bob Ballard has over 19 years of research and development experience in the field of fire protection. Bob began his career with Figgie Fire Protection Systems developing fire protection products within industrial and commercial industries. In 2003, Bob joined Victaulic and began developing the special hazard fire suppression system, Victaulic Vortex. Bob is a technical committee member for the NFPA 75 Standard for the Fire Protection of Information Technology Equipment as well as NFPA 318 Standard for the Protection of Semiconductor Fabrication Facilities.

     

 

 

Tracey Bellamy, CFPS, PE
Tracey Bellamy is a registered PE in 49 States, Washington DC, and Guam. He is Chief Engineer Officer at Telgian Corporation overseeing all engineering activities and establishes standards of performance for the fire protection engineering program. His specialties include: fire protection system inspection, testing & maintenance; code development and analysis; hydraulic calculations and analysis; fire hazards analysis; institutional, hospitality, industrial, warehouse, hazard materials, high piled storage, and mercantile industries.

     

 

 

Mike Bosma
Michael Bosma, President of The Viking Corporation in Hastings, MI, has 30 years experience in both the manufacture and sales of fire protection equipment, including water-based sprinkler gear, water mist systems, and non-water-based clean agent offerings. He currently manages the global research & development effort for water-based sprinkler and mist systems for the recently merged Minimax Viking Organization based in Bad Oldeslo, Germany. Mike holds a NICET certification in automatic sprinkler design and a Bachelor’s degree from Hope College with concentrations in Marketing and Economics.

Bob Caputo, CFPS, CET
With over 35 years of experience, Bob Caputo is active in industry leadership, serving as chairman of the NFPA 16 (Foam Water Sprinkler Systems) technical committee and as a member of several other committees including NFPA 13 Sprinkler Installation, NFPA 13 Sprinkler Discharge, NFPA 13 Sprinkler Systems Hangers & Braces, NFPA 3 and 4 Integrated Systems Testing, and NFPA 25. He is also a contributor of the NFPA 13 and NFPA 25 Handbooks, and the NFPA 25 Inspection Manual. He’s rejoined the Telgian organization where he oversees the operation of sprinkler & alarm testing, and inspections teams, along with maintenance and repair services for compliance solutions. He previously served as vice president at Fire & Life Safety America since 2006. Caputo has presented across the nation on the subjects of fire protection and life safety systems, including design and installation, hydraulic calculations, plan review, fire pumps, standpipes, and special hazards.

 

     

 

 

Richard Dunne
As Manager, Fire Protection Group within FM Approvals, LLC, Rick is responsible for managing the product testing and certification of equipment for use in fire protection systems and has been with the company since 2005. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA, and has a Master’s of Business Administration from Babson College, Wellesley, MA. He is an active member of the NFPA.

     
 

James Golinveaux
With 30 years of experience in the fire protection industry, including both contracting and manufacturing, Mr. Golinveaux is currently a Senior Fellow of Water Suppression Products for Tyco Fire Protection Products. His current role applies his experience globally in the fire protection industry to develop advancements in water-based fire protection devices and systems. He currently holds 12 U.S. patent families in Automatic Sprinkler Technologies. James is a current member of the NFPA Standards Council, a past member of the Board of Trustees for the Fire Protection Research Foundation, as well as multiple other Boards and Councils including Factory Mutual Advisory, AFSA, NFSA, International Fire Sprinkler Association, and the Fire Sprinkler Association of Brazil. Mr. Golinveaux is a subject matter expert and contributor for NFPA’s Fire Protection Handbook, the Automatic Sprinkler Systems Handbook, and the Automatic Sprinkler Systems for Residential Occupancies Handbook. He has also served on NFPA 13 Technical Committee for the past 18 years and has chaired the storage task group for the last 13 years. Additionally, he is a technical committee member of NFPA 88A, 101, and 5000.

 

     
 

Frederic (Rick) Gover
Rick Gover is a shareholder in the Dallas, Texas law firm of Canterbury, Gooch, Surratt, Shapiro, Stein & Gaswirth, P.C. His practice involves general construction and labor and employment law as it relates to the construction industry. Mr. Gover obtained his B.S. from Pennsylvania State University and his J.D. from Southern Methodist University. Mr. Gover is Board Certified in Labor and Employment Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He has given numerous presentations to various contractor organizations on labor and employment matters.

 

     

 

 

Dwight Green
Dwight Green is Sprinkler Operations Manager for SimplexGrinnell Western U.S. Operations, and previously the SimplexGrinnell Manager of Apprenticeship and Training with over 45 years of experience in the sprinkler industry. He is a former Mayor of Castroville, TX, and serves on various sprinkler industry boards and committees including NFPA, CAFSA, and TXFSCA. He is a National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Certified Master Trainer, and is the co-author of the first and only US-DOL recognized Apprenticeship program approved across all 50 states for a single company.

     

 

 

Tracy Hadwin
Tracy Hadwin has been the Safety Director at Fire Tech Systems for over 5 years. She has obtained Level II certification in Inspection & Testing of Water-Based Systems from NICET and is a Certified Occupational Safety Specialist and OSHA Outreach Trainer. Tracy is currently serving her fourth year as the Commissioner of the Safety Committee for the Shreveport Association of General Contractors. She has been a member of the National Association of Women in Construction for 4 years where she serves as President of their local Chapter, and also on the National Health and Safety Committee. In 2011, Tracy was a finalist for the National Safety Award, conferred by the National Association of Women in Construction. She is also a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers.

     

 

 

John Hershenberg
John Hershenberg has been involved with group retirement plans since 1995 and represents Pinnacle Financial Services, a 401(k) Third Party Administrator. John studied investments and qualified plan design while working on his MBA in Finance from the University of Texas and has supported sponsors of 401(k) plans in various parts of the country ever since. John specializes in helping business owners evaluate their benefit plans, identifying costs and liabilities, and offering alternative solutions. John currently serves as Pinnacle’s Regional Marketing Director and supports the AFSA 401(k) plan.

     
 

Gary Keith
Gary Keith is Vice President, Engineering Standards Manager, at FM Global’s Center for Property Risk Solutions in Norwood, MA. He oversees FM Global’s Standards Department, which develops written property loss prevention data sheets containing engineering guidelines to help reduce the risk of property loss due to fire, weather, and/or equipment failure. Previously, Gary worked for NFPA for nearly two decades as vice president of field operations. He began his career in 1980 as a loss prevention consultant at FM Global and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Wentworth Institute of Technology, Boston, MA. In 2012, he was awarded the distinction of “fellow” by the Institution of Fire Engineers for outstanding service to the profession.

Matt Klaus, PE
Matt Klaus is a Principal Fire Protection Engineer at the National Fire Protection Association, where he is responsible for NFPA documents addressing commissioning, integrated system testing, and automatic sprinkler systems. He presently holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, as well as a Master’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He is a member of the Salamander Honorary Fire Protection Engineering Society. His experience includes designing and commissioning fire protection systems including smoke control systems, suppression systems, and fire alarm systems.

     
 

Jeffrey Kochelek
Jeff Kochelek earned a BS in Chemistry from St. Louis University with additional coursework in Mechanical Engineering from Washington University. He has spent 30+ years designing corrosion control strategies for industrial applications including oil and gas operations, municipal and industrial wastewater, and most recently in the fire sprinkler industry. Mr. Kochelek came to work for Fire Protection Systems Corrosion Management, Inc. (fpsCMI) in 2008 to begin advancing corrosion management technologies for the fire sprinkler industry. His engineering team now provides the only state of the art corrosion assessment, corrosion management and risk mitigation services for the fire sprinkler industry. He assembled a team of investors to form Engineered Corrosion Solutions, LLC, which completed acquisition of fpsCMI in March 2013.

 

     

 

 

Ray Lambert
Ray Lambert is currently the Design Manager for Western Fire Protection, Poway, CA. He began his career in fire protection for Mather and Platt in Manchester, England, at the age of 16, earning a Mechanical Engineer degree at Salford College. Lambert emigrated to California in 1982 and has 42 years’ experience in fire protection design. He was recently involved in the University of California San Diego Earthquake Research Project and serves as an alternate member of NFPA 13’s Hanging and Bracing Committee.

Russ Leavitt, CFPS, SET
Russ Leavitt is the Executive Chairman of Telgian Corporation, an international fire protection and life safety services organization. He is a graduate of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, holds a Level IV certification from NICET in Fire Sprinkler Layout, and is a Certified Fire Protection Specialist. He is a licensed contractor with 31 years of experience in the design, installation, and testing of fire protection systems. He currently serves as the chair for the Technical Correlating Committee on Sprinkler System Discharge Criteria (NFPA 13) and as a member of the Technical Committee for Sprinkler System Installation (NFPA 13), the NFPA 25 Technical Committee, the Technical Committee for Commissioning and Integrated Testing (NFPA 3 and 4), and the NFPA 5000 (building code) Technical Correlating Committee. Russ is a long time instructor for AFSA and is a senior instructor for NFPA’s Professional Development Series. He has authored a number of articles and training materials including AFSA’s online hydraulics course series, and the Fire Smarts Residential Sprinkler training guide. He is a major contributor for the 2011 and 2014 NFPA 25 Handbooks published by NFPA. Mr. Leavitt is a member of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE).

 

     
 

Peg Paul
With more than 26 years experience in the marketing/communications industry, Peg has always been involved with consumer information and safety awareness programs. Peg has been the communications manager for the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition since 1997. She has worked with HFSC’s board to develop and implement the educational programs for consumers, members of the fire service, home building industry, real estate and insurance agents, water purveyors and other targeted groups. Peg is proud to serve on the board of The Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors. In addition to donating her time to help with the organizations public relations, development and marketing, Peg is also the coordinator for TEAM PHOENIX, a charity team who runs the Chicago Marathon every year to raise money and awareness for burn survivors.

 

     

 

 

Jim Rogan
Jim Rogan is the Senior Vice President of the Corporate Benefits Division at M.E. Wilson. As a benefits professional, Jim works to design, implement and monitor the overall performance of employee benefits programs. His specific areas of responsibility include staff management, profit and loss, account services, program development, client satisfaction and retention. Jim has a degree in Business Management from Johnson State College in Vermont, and his professional training includes underwriting and product development.

Steven Scandaliato, CFPS, SET
Steven Scandaliato is Executive Principal and Managing Director at SDG, LLC.  He has over 32 years’ experience in fire protection engineering, design and project management covering all types of fire protection and life safety systems.  He serves on the Technical Advisory Committee for the American Fire Sprinkler Association and represents AFSA as a member of the NFPA 13, 101 and 5000 Committees.  Nationally recognized, Steven has become one of the most popular and sought after speakers on fire and life safety systems in the country.  He is published in several periodicals including articles for the NFPA Journal, Fire Marshals Quarterly and American Society of Plumbing Engineers.  He is also a contributing author to the text published by NFPA/SFPE titled “A Designers Guide to Automatic Sprinkler Systems.”  He most recently presented seminars on “Plan Review and Installation of Fire Sprinkler Systems” for the Florida Fire Marshals and Inspectors Association throughout Florida.  Over the last 15 years, he has presented seminars to thousands in contracting and professional associations including the American Fire Sprinkler Association, American Society of Plumbing Engineers, American Institute of Architects, Society of Fire Protection Engineers, American Society of Sanitary Engineering and the International Fire Marshals Association.  He is a member of NFPA, SFPE and AFSA.

 

     
 

Karen Schar
Throughout Karen Schar’s wide-ranging career in technology, spanning over 20 years, Karen has never stopped searching for new knowledge and exciting ways to help solve a problem. Karen spent the majority of her career in Southern California where she joined start-up Stack Computer as employee #2 in the early 90s, and over her 17 year career there helped the organization develop and support the technology needs for companies all over the U.S. and Europe. Her ability and experience in helping to discuss the needs of technology for a business in layman’s terms has benefited hundreds of companies over the years. Since joining Zumasys as the Director of Sales in 2013, she now focuses on supporting the organization’s growth initiatives nationwide. In her role, she primarily assists in educating potential customers on the benefits and options available to leverage technology to support and grow their business.

James Schug
Jim Schug is a consultant with FMI, management consultants and investment bankers for the construction industry. He specializes in organizational development, teambuilding, productivity improvement consulting, and strategic planning. He’s earned a Bachelor of Science degree in theoretical economics from the United States Military Academy at West Point, and a Master’s of Engineering Management from the University of Missouri. He is a member of the Society of American Military Engineers.

     

 

 

Joe Siderowicz
Joe has over 25 years’ experience in the life safety service industry. He has held executive level positions in service for both Honeywell and Simplex. At Simplex, Joe was VP Service Division and VP Corporate Marketing. He has spent the past 10 years advising independent sprinkler contractors and fire alarm firms on improving their service revenue and profitability. Joe is the President of the AfterMarket Consulting Group and author of “Service in Not a Product.”

     
 

Kenneth H. Stowe, PE
Kenneth Stowe, PE, is a construction technology expert and development strategist at Autodesk, Inc. With 25 years of experience in construction management and preconstruction services, project control on projects as large as $1.4 billion, eleven years in BIM software, experience on four continents, numerous articles, and contributions to four books, Stowe leads a team at Autodesk responsible for construction business development and strategy initiatives worldwide. With unshakable conviction in the benefits of BIM and teamwork, Stowe and his team create a unique partnership between Autodesk’s product development and industry leaders in the worldwide construction community. Together, they leverage the science of integrated technology and lean teamwork for better decisions, planning, construction, execution, and facility performance. Ken is helping to expand Revit, NavisWorks, QTO, and other applications for the builder and subcontractor. He’s earned two degrees from Dartmouth College in Engineering Science and Civil/Mechanical Engineering. Terry Victor, SET
Terry Victor, National Manager of Sprinkler Business Processes at SimplexGrinnell, has over 40 years of technical experience in the sprinkler industry. He serves on various industry boards and committees including the NICET Fire Protection Advisory Group, and is NICET Level IV certified in Sprinkler System Layout and Special Hazards System Layout. He is a member of several NFPA technical committees including those for NFPA 3, 4, 13, 13D, 13R, 14, 15, 16, 20, 25, 214, 232, and 303.

     
 

Ken Wagoner, CFPE, CFPS, SET
Ken is a 1977 graduate of Bethany College (KS), and owner of Parsley Consulting, located in Escondido, CA. He has 33 years of experience in automatic sprinkler system and fire alarm system design, plan review, and construction management. He is an AFSA-designated alternate representative to the NFPA 1031 Committee (Professional Qualifications for Fire Inspectors and Plan Reviewers), principal member of the Hanging and Bracing Committee of NFPA 13, and chairman of the NFPA 24 committee (Standard for the Installation of Private Fire Service Mains). He has published numerous articles on seismic bracing, hydraulic calculations, system design and the plan review process; has presented online virtual seminars, and teaches classes sponsored by the San Diego Fire Protection Association and the American Fire Sprinkler Association. He is an active member of NFPA, AFSA, and SDFPA.
