Chapters
Chapter membership increases your awareness of developments in the region
where you do business and it increases public awareness through local events
and charitable contributions such as chapter golf tournaments. AFSA chapters
work aggressively in state and local legislatures for positive fire safety
requirements, as well as watching for legislation that is detrimental to
open shop contractors.
Representation/Professionalism
As a national organization, AFSA acts as your liaison with other associations
involved in fire safety, government agencies that can affect your business
environment and Authorities Having Jurisdiction. Working together with
agencies such as the U. S. Fire Administration (USFA) and organizations
such as the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Home Fire Sprinkler
Coalition (HFSC) , and International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC),
AFSA helps to create an awareness of the dangers of fire. Communication
with Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and Factory Mutual (FM) through the
AFSA Technical Advisory Council promotes industry technical advancement
and cooperation. The leaders of the association testify before the House,
the Senate, state legislatures and city councils and represent the industry
at code conferences and other arenas for debate on fire safety. AFSA
also represents your interests on NFPA standards setting committees.
