AFSA’s Beginning ITM Workshop course is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the essential procedures and best practices for ensuring the proper functioning and reliability of sprinkler systems based on NFPA 25, Standard for the Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems. This course is specifically tailored for ITM technicians, fire protection professionals, and individuals responsible for the ongoing maintenance and compliance of sprinkler systems. Throughout this course, participants will delve into the crucial aspects of inspecting, testing, and maintaining sprinkler systems to ensure they are in optimal working condition, compliant with NFPA 25, and capable of providing reliable fire protection. They will gain practical knowledge and hands-on skills to identify potential issues, conduct inspections and tests, and perform routine maintenance tasks.

Details

Participants will ignite their knowledge of codes and standards while gaining a deeper understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the owner or designated representative, ITM technician, and Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). The class includes hands-on demonstrations and activities of wet systems, dry systems, and fire pumps, including (but not limited to) main drain testing, dry valve trip testing, and fire pump no-flow testing.

Course content is subject to change based on specific needs and equipment availability.

Audience:

 Any experience level, new technicians, new inspectors, AHJs, facilities maintenance personnel

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain codes, standards, and the roles and responsibilities of the parties involved in the inspection, testing, and maintenance of water-based fire protection systems.
  2. Comparing and contrasting the components of different types of water-based fire protection systems.
  3. Identify the operation and required NFPA 25 periodic inspection, testing, and maintenance requirements for common components, sprinkler systems,  wet systems, and dry systems in water-based fire protection systems.
  4. Execute the NFPA 25 requirements for the no-flow testing of fire pumps
